Marija Dzeisla. Vysta smierts

Marija Dzeisla. Vysta smierts
“Vysta smierts” – which can be translated either as “Death of a Chicken” or “All that Death” – is a collection of poems – dzeislinīks – written in Latgalian by Marija Dziesla. Each chapter of the book is a separate, unbound cahier, thus, it can be dismantled and then reassembled in a different order, or you can choose a page or two and gift it to your cousin. Reading this book feels like a personal missive intended specifically for you, the one who is reading it at the particular moment.
EB Garamond is a classical old-style book-printing typeface that contrasts with the non-binding of the book. The collection of poems is complemented by photos where Elena Helfrecht deals with the subjects that resonate with the book – exploration of historical heritage, connection with our ancestors, and the mystical element in our relations with nature.
